United States: The authorities predict a staggering post-election decline in the viewership of their television channels. A fresh Associated Press poll reveals that most Americans have been exhausted since Trump’s electoral win and are no longer interested in political news.

More about the news

The poll also reveals that Americans still care about politics regarding media consumption more than any other topic, as the viewers are still inclined to news regarding global climate change, the global economy, and foreign conflicts.

Additionally, seven out of 10 Democrats said that in an AP poll, they are currently avoiding political news.

Thus, while numbers were less for the Republicans jubilant over Trump’s victory, 60 percent also felt they needed a break from politics. The same number of independents had similar viewpoints, independent.co.uk reported.

The political fatigue

In some shows that represent their political views, people are tired, and in particular, Democrats are physically tired after Trump’s win.

The reports suggest that the Democrats are feeling exhaustion and political fatigue coming from Trump’s victory, thereby resulting in a decrease in viewerships.

Since the election last week, CNN’s total day audience has plunged by 35 percent to only 331,000 viewers.

In primetime now, the network is getting only 400,000 viewers, or 46 percent below the post-election number, according to Nielsen Media Research.

MSNBC, which has been seen as an anti-Trump platform, has shed fully 47 percent of its Total Day audience and 54 percent of its Primetime viewers to an average audience of just 615,000.

The ratings decline has become so acute for the left-leaning channel that it was even overtaken in the prized 25-54 consumer advertising age group by NewsNation – a “centrist” cable channel that attracts a sliver of the number of MSNBC’s viewership, independent.co.uk reported.

On the other hand, Fox News has had a boost in ratings after the election.

The conservative cable news network geared to Trump fans, who have helped the company several on-air talent move on to join the administration of the president-elect, is up 12 percent in primetime with 2.65 million viewers on average.
