United States: Snow continues to accumulate from the first storm across the Mid-Atlantic states, with the focus shifting to the next storm system that will bring a wintry mix from Texas to the East this week.

More about the news

This next storm will start inland with snow and ice from the Texas/Mexico border Wednesday night and then move east through the southern and possibly the eastern half of the country by the end of the week.

According to AccuWeather meteorologist Tom Kines, “In places that don’t get snow or ice very often, such as Austin, Dallas, Little Rock, and Nashville, it will be a big deal,” USA Today reported.

Major snowfall spell after years

But there is still some doubt about where it will go from there up the East Coast, Taylor said, the next winter storm is expected to bring more significant wintery weather to the southern Plains later in the week, National Weather Service meteorologist Zack Taylor stated.

Places, including Dallas, may see their largest snowfall in several years, according to AccuWeather.

According to AccuWeather meteorologist Bernie Rayno, “There will be enough energy in this storm for snow and ice in parts of Texas. We are forecasting several inches of snowfall in Dallas and along parts of I-20 in northern Texas,” USA Today reported.

“This storm could essentially shut down travel across northern Texas by Thursday night into Friday,” Rayno added.

Weather officials statement

According to the National Weather Service in Dallas, “Stay warm, bundle up, and prepare for an increasingly likely impactful winter weather event later this week!”

After pounding the Lone Star State, Taylor wrote that the storm would move into the Southeastern states, but it is unclear if it will drift off the coast or push northward towards the Northeast.

As the storm later advances eastward this week and shifts off the eastern seaboard, it may deliver additional impacts to portions of the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and even New England states, depending on how this system tracks.

“There are two scenarios for this late-week storm. One scenario brings this storm farther south with limited snow and ice. If the storm is guided up the coast and strengthens, we could end up with a large snowstorm from the Carolinas to the Mid-Atlantic, possibly reaching eastern New England,” Rayno added.

If northeastern snow enthusiasts want a bigger storm to perform its snow-making voodoo, Kines said they should wish for more power as he said such a system would effectively bring more wintry precipitation to the area.
