United States: The Florida gov. Ron DeSantis, announced a USD eight million grant on Thursday for Miami Freedom Park, which is the major League Soccer stadium for Inter Miami, which is scheduled to have an opening after two years.

However, the event was marred by controversy following what many saw as a political tirade against Minnesota governor Tim Walz, whom Joe Biden recently named his running mate Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential elections.

More about the news

The next day, after saying, “A Harris-Walz ticket would make America burn again,” on FOX News, DeSantis is seen criticizing Walz for the COVID-19 policies in Minnesota when he was in charge.

The alleged reduced population of the state and the laws that let minors get medicinal treatment without parents’ consent have been under fire by the officials.

DeSantis said, “I never thought it would end up where someone would make this judgment of actually putting him on a ticket,” while referring to Walz.

Moreover, as DeSantis added, “I remember during COVID, the absolute frustration that people had moving from Minnesota because of how they were being treated,” he specifically called out a mandate for Minnesota state employees.

The reason cited is to obtain the COVID vaccine and establish a hotline for people to call about violating COVID restrictions.

What more did DeSantis say?

DeSantis added, “Being able to get kids in school was impossible for those months in COVID. I mean, it was absolutely ridiculous what they were doing.”

Furthermore, as DeSantis said of Walz, “I think they’re creating a much different image. But this is something that we’ve been getting information on for many years, just from the people that move out of of Minnesota and have come to Florida,” as USA Today reported.

“And I tell you, I always ask people, when they tell me they moved, I said, Are you glad you did? And they say they are. So that’s that,” he continued.

The grant will be to build a road to reduce congestion on and around this under-construction stadium that is to be built near Miami International Airport. Funds for the money are derived from the governor’s job growth work fund, and the stadium is financed privately.

As Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas said about the jobs and tourism the project would bring to Miami, and claimed it would “generate over $40 million a year in tax revenue between state and local governments.”
