United States: The Russian attack on Ukraine topped Putin’s annual marathon televised Q&A on Thursday, which also touched on possible future relations with Trump and the continuing conflict in Syria.

Part of the question was to act on what Moscow would do following the Trump administration since Russia was in a ‘weaker position.”

In response, Putin said that he had not talked to Trump for four years, but he is willing to have a meeting.

When talking about the war in Ukraine, Putin stated that the newly launched Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile capable of striking the Ukrainian city of Dnipro cannot be intercepted by Western air defense systems, ABC News reported.

Putin, on one occasion, proposed organizing “an experiment or a duel.” Russia would designate a target in Kyiv for an Oreshnik operation, while Ukraine would position its Western-supplied air defenses against the missile

What more did the president state?

The president also said that Russian forces ‘are gradually liberating our land’ and that Ukraine’s military will be ‘removed’ from locations in Russia’s western Kursk region ‘shortly,’ though the timeframe was not specified.

Putin was also asked about missing US journalist Austin Tice, who went missing in the Syrian Arab Republic 12 years ago. Putin mentioned that the allegations would be discussed with former Syrian President Bashar Assad, who fled to Russia after being ousted by rebels in early March.

Tice’s mother has reportedly written to Putin asking for help in finding Tice, who is now the focus of an internationally coordinated major search with the help of the US regional partners and the new Syrian rebel authorities, ABC News reported.

Putin said he has not seen Assad since the latter was given asylum in Russia but will discuss the fate of Tice.
