United States: Sunday statement by the former House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), mentioned that the violence that occurred on January 6th, 2021, the attack on the US Capitol, “didn’t end that day.”
More about the news
Pelosi mentioned while giving an interview with CBS News’s Margaret Brennan on “Face the Nation” that “It didn’t end that day,”
Where she said, “As you know, [President-elect Trump] called out to these people to continue their violence, my husband being a victim of all of that, and it still — he still has injuries from that attack.”
This Monday marks the fourth anniversary of the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Speaking of Trump, he vowed to pardon the rioters who stormed the Capitol before Congress was certifying Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.
He has also hinted that there could be some pardon in the first few hours of the second term of his administration.
Moreover, Pelosi also stated in her “Face the Nation” appearance, “It’s really a strange person who’s going to be president of the United States, who thinks that it’s OK to pardon people who are engaged in an attack” the Hill reported.
Capitol Police statement
Few of the former Capitol police officers who were present at the stop during the January 6 violence have mentioned that Trump’s commitment to pardon rioters is “a betrayal.”
Furthermore, “It’s a betrayal, a stab in the heart,” said former Sgt. Aquilino Gonell, who had gotten permanent injuries on the day of the attack, The Washington Post reported.
Former Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn has previously claimed that Trump’s encouragement of forgiveness for the violent actions of insurrectionists is shameful for the president to say as the commander in chief.
As Dunn stated, “They broke the law, violated police officers, attacked us, and then went back and said we did it in the name of Donald Trump,”
“And then Donald Trump is going to pardon them and say it’s OK, all is forgiven.”
