United States: The United States has been facing a continuous political turmoil. Recently, a conflict between former US President Donald Trump and US House Speaker Mike Johnson was rumoured; however both has denied the statement as they participated in a meeting.
Following the meet, Trump has suggested that funding towards Ukraine should be loan. The statement has been given by the former president amidst a burgeoning internal dissent within the ranks of the House leadership, the quest for bipartisan consensus to usher in appropriations for the defense of Ukraine and Israel encountered a glimmer of encouragement on the eve of the weekend. The impetus came from none other than the presumptive Republican nominee for the presidency, Donald Trump.

According to the reports by Voice of America, Trump said, “He’s doing a really good job under very tough circumstances.” The comment was passed by former president during a press conference organised at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. It is to be noted that House Speaker Mike Johnson was among the attendees.
Furthermore, he outlined that Republicans are in favor of making more military aid towards Ukraine from the United States; however he mentioned that it must be “in the form of a loan rather than a gift.”
Reportedly, no statement has been shared by Johnson. However, there is a high chance that Trump’s latest statement will influence many House Republicans. Johnson, who is a Republican from the state of Louisiana, has been currently in negotiation about a package that would deviate from the Senate’s $95 billion foreign security legislation with the White House.
It is noteworthy that Ukraine’s aid, which has been fighting against Russia, and Israel’s aid, which has been conducting a fight against Hamas, are the two most controversial topics for discussion.
Johnson’s position in peril
Johnson, a relatively obscure figure nationally when he emerged as a compromise choice among Republicans for the role of House speaker, now faces the possibility of losing his position. Republicans are sharply divided regarding providing further military assistance to Ukraine.
“I refuse to allocate any funds to Ukraine, neither in the past nor in the future,” retorted Representative Troy Nehls when questioned by VOA’s Ukrainian Service on Thursday. “Could someone elucidate the strategic approach concerning Ukraine?”
Nehls — counted among the Republican legislators who baselessly claim that the 2020 presidential election was “manipulated” in favor of President Joe Biden — anticipated that if Trump were to be re-elected president in November, Russian troops “will evacuate Ukraine by April 1st.”

Another Republican in the House, Keith Self from the state of Texas, advocates for any aid to Ukraine to be contingent upon increased allocation for security along the US Southern border with Mexico.
Self-informed VOA that while Kyiv awaits further assistance from Washington, it should seek assistance from European nations.
“I believe Europe is awakening to the necessity of attending to their own vicinity,” remarked Self, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Should Johnson appear to acquiesce to the demands of Democrats, it could potentially exacerbate the dissatisfaction among Republican lawmakers with his leadership.
Johnson is compelled to collaborate with Democrats on significant legislative matters due to his party’s narrow majority in the House.
Democrats take on Israel
US House Speaker Johnson has been asked to push over the finish line of the national security package proposed by the Senate if he wants to retain his position. The suggestion has been offered by Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New Jersey, who also works as the Democratic Party Leader.
Along with this, Democrats’ disagreement over the bill is also reported. Several reports have outlined that some are not favoring weaponry aid to Israel from the United States.
While addressing the concern, a Democrat from the state of Washington – Representative Pramila Jayapal said, “I’m looking at the possibility of a Ukraine-only [funding] bill,” according to the VOA’s Ukrainian Service. In addition to this, Representative Madeleine Dean said that not aiding Ukraine “is malpractice on our part.”
Trump and Johnson!
Johnson’s visit on Friday to Trump’s Floridian estate was perceived as an endeavor by the enfeebled House speaker to garner reinforcement from the erstwhile president. Trump’s endorsement has been crucial for principal Republicans to maintain their incumbencies or secure them.
His nonalignment with the antecedently elected House speaker, Kevin McCarthy of California, and Republican National Committee Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel resulted in departures from their respective leadership roles.
