United States: Ex-President Trump was able to get more than USD one million on Monday to support people who have been affected following the impacts of Hurricane Helene.

The Trump campaign created a GoFundMe fundraising page after the former president toured devastated parts of Georgia, which had been affected and destroyed by Hurricane Helene.

More about the news

According to the fund page, “With so many across the Southeastern U.S. facing challenges after the storm, President Trump is on the ground in communities to see the aftermath firsthand,” Fox News reported.

“All donations will be directed to help those most affected by Hurricane Helene. Any level of generosity will go a long way for your fellow Americans who are suffering.”

Top donors’ contribution

The top donors were ex-U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler, a Republican from Georgia, who contributed USD 500,000.

A wilderness-themed company with a string of stores that sell hunting, fishing & outdoor products, Bass Pro Shop donated a hundred thousand US dollars.

A Dana White, presumably the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship mixed martial arts promotion company, who supported Trump and spoke at the Republican National Convention this year, also donated USD 100,000.

Trump criticized the government

Trump went to Valdosta, Georgia, on Monday, where he accused the federal government of gross incompetence in handling the calamity.

However, President Biden accused his predecessor of ‘lying’ about federal contact with Georgia officials during the response.

According to Biden, “I don’t know why he does this,” and, “I don’t care about what he says about me, but I care what he communicates to people that are in need. He implies that we’re not doing everything possible. We are. We are.”

On Monday, Biden claimed that he would go to Asheville, North Carolina, to inspect the effects of storm Helene. As of Monday evening, over one hundred individuals have lost their lives because of the storm known as Helene.
