United States: In the latest reports, dual hurricane threats are roaming in Hawaii, which, as experts put it, is a rare combination that could potentially bring heavy rain and winds to the islands twice within a week.

More about the news

As per the reports, the big island of Hawaii was under alert for a high tropical storm until it was dispersed early afternoon on Sunday, as the hurricane Hone passed south of the island, which was recorded to be at a speed of 80 mph.

The storm incurred Category 1 status overnight, which made it realize its presence despite delivering a direct blow.

What has the National Weather Service stated?

As per the National Weather Service, “Widespread rainfall of 10 to 15 inches has already fallen across windward Big Island over the past 24 hours, with some locally higher amounts of 18 inches or more,” as the USA News reported.

“Additional rainfall estimates of 3 to 5 inches will keep a moderate to high threat of flash flooding today over much of Hawaii County,” it added.

As per the Associated Press reports, the heavy showers increased the risk of mudslides in the mountains. However, the weather service took down its red flag warning for wildfires in drier areas of the island as well.

Prediction about Hone

The weather reports expect Hone to be weakened, but along with gusty winds and substantial rain to the smaller Hawaiian islands, it would continue to show its mark through Monday as it moves towards the west.

According to the National Hurricane Center, it warned of “life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.”

On Sunday afternoon, almost 26,000 utility consumers faced power cuts, as power outage.us informed, where the Big Island residents tolerated maximum bearing, as USA Today reported.

About hurricane Gilma

As per the reports, another storm, named Glima, has currently been posing a major threat as the hurricane could bring havoc to the islands in the coming days.

The experts revealed that Hurricane Gilma was almost 1,300 miles east of the Big Island on Sunday; however, it was causing winds of almost 115 mph, making it a Category 3 storm, as it moved around, away from the island in the eastern north Pacific Ocean.

Two storms threat posed on islands

The mentioned two storms have reached 300 miles of the main Hawaiian islands within a week’s period for the first time since 1992, as per AccuWeather, as almost 40 percent of tropical cyclones pose a threat to the state all over the year, taking place in August.

Additionally, a third system developed east of Glima and almost one thousand miles west of Baja California on Sunday to garner a tropical storm status.

It was named Hector, generating sustained winds of up to 45 mph. As the NHC reported, it is expected to grow stronger gradually over the next few days.
