United States: House Speaker Mike Johnson plans to carry a Republican budget framework to passage this week to proceed with President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” a USD 4.5 trillion tax cut measure and USD 2 trillion in budget reductions despite Democratic opposition and even some Republican dissent.

The speaker fights every possible challenge across Democrats, Republicans, and skeptical GOP senators to maintain the progress of the budget package during the tight voting situation in his small GOP majority.

The future votes scheduled for Tuesday night are currently at risk and have unclear results.

“We’re going to get everyone there,” said Johnson, of Louisiana, at an event at the start of the week, half-joking that he had a “prayer request” involved.

Approval of this package represents an essential element of the budget process since Trump aims to get congressional Republican support for extending tax breaks established in his previous term, although their expiration date approaches.

The GOP faces a well-known obstacle when attempting to reduce federal spending because implementing such reductions proves more difficult in practice.

Most budget responsibilities aimed at health care, food stamps, student loans, and essential community programs remain untouched because of Pentagon budget protection and other restricted federal cuts.

The situation currently involves billionaire Trump adviser Elon Musk executing mass layoffs across government agencies with his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) while citizens express their anger toward lawmakers at district-level gatherings.

According to Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, and several other GOP lawmakers in the Congressional Hispanic Conference, “While we fully support efforts to rein in wasteful spending and deliver on President Trump’s agenda, it is imperative that we do not slash programs that support American communities across our nation,” AP News reported.

All Democratic members of Congress in the House and Senate have declared their commitment to stopping this entire process.

Hakeem Jeffries, the House Democratic leader, organized a group of lawmakers who intended to protest on the steps of the Capitol Building during the Tuesday legislative session.

“This is not what people want,” Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass. stated during a rules debate ahead of planned votes.

“We all know that trickle-down economics,” he stated, where almost the 2017 tax breaks that flowed mainly to the wealthy, “don’t work.”

Lawmakers believe Trump is delighted to witness the House and Senate struggle to create healthcare legislation, yet at the same time, he favors the larger-scale bill.
